Photovisa
J'avais promis lors de mon premier article sur ce blog de vous montrer
l'œuvre que j'ai crée pour le festival Photovisa
à Krasnodar en Russie. Il s'agit de 144 portraits de militaires
photographiés à Valcartier au printemps 2002, en vue de l'installation Jubilee pour Dieppe.
Pour la première fois j'aurai l'occasion de présenter ces
portraits dans une exposition. Ces portraits n'étaient destinés au départ que pour l'installation sur la plage en vue pour êtres ensuite emportés par la mer. En somme, cette présentation du Projet Dieppe
en Russie leur offre une seconde vie.
Sous le thème du Visage (The Face), Photovisa présente
plusieurs expositions au cours de cet automne. L'ouverture officielle se fera
le 23 octobre. J'ai décidé de me rendre dans ce coin reculé de ce grand pays
qu'est la Russie pour assister à la présentation de tous les volets du projet
Dieppe: les portraits, les vues d'installation, les paysages de la série Caux et le film 913 (traduit en russe). Je serai en Russie du 20 au 28 octobre. L'expostion sera présentée dans le Musée
d'Histoire et d'archéologie de Krasnodar.
Je vous tiendrez informé ici et sur Facebook de mon voyage
et de ses retombées. Il va sans dire que je suis très excité de pouvoir voyager
si loin pour présenter mon travail et que celui-ci y trouve sa place.

I had
promised in an earlier article on this blog to show the work I created
specially for Photovisa, the photography festival in Krasnodar, Russia. The
installation comprises 144 portraits of soldiers photographed at the Valcartier,
Québec military base in the spring of 2002. At Photovisa, they will be mounted
on two panels that form a diptych. The photographs were originally made for Jubilee, the July 2002 installation on
the beach at Dieppe.
This is the
first time these portraits will be seen in the form of an exhibition. In 2002,
the prints were installed on the beach, and then, by intent, swept out to sea
with the tide, forever lost. Now, in a sense, this newly conceived presentation
in Russia offers a second life for these portraits.
The theme
this year at Photovisa
is “The Face” and numerous exhibitions exploring this subject will be on view this
autumn. Photovisa opens on October 23, 2012 and I will go to Krasnodar, a
remote location near the Black Sea, more than a thousand miles from Moscow, to attend the first public
presentation of all the elements of the Dieppe project: the portraits for Jubilee; photographs of the 2002 Dieppe beach installation; Caux, the landscape photographs of the coast of Normandy; and 913, the 30-minute documentary film (translated into Russian) on the Jubilee project. The exhibition will be held at the Krasnodar State Historic and Archeological Museum.
I will keep you informed on this blog and on Facebook about the trip. It
goes without saying that I'm very excited about travelling so far to present my
work and finding out how it finds its place there.
